Chicken tikka masala is one of the most popular types of Indian curry from Europe. In UK, the Indian community is very numerous and this was the main reason why the result of a poll concluded that Chicken tikka masala is the national British meal.

There are more than one ways to prepare this recipe that is extremely easy and quick to prepare, but each one is based on small pieces(tikka) of chicken prepared in a spicy sauce made of tomatoes and yoghurt. The term masala refers to a mix of Indian spices.

To prepare 4 servings of Chicken Tikka Masala we need approximately 25 minutes and these ingredients:

1,2 kg  chicken breast

2 onions

5 garlic cloves

1 piece of ginger

1 tsp cilantro

1 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp turmeric

1 tsp garam masala

2 rolls  cinnamon

5-6 cardamom

3 chili peppers

2 tsp  red pepper powder

5 tomatoes

1 cup chicken  broth

300 ml yoghurt

4 tsp  oil

salt

black pepper

 

Preparing our Chicken Tikka Masala:

We start by pealing the onion, garlic and ginger, and by chopping them into small pieces.

Aside we chop the chicken meat into very small pieces.

We continue by finely  slicing  the chili pepper .

In a mixing bowl we add the small chopped tomatoes, the red pepper powder, the cumin, the cilantro  and the turmeric . We mix them together as to get a garam masala. We leave the garam masala aside.

We add oil in a deep pan and we fry  the chicken meat by continuously stirring  until it is well cooked.  We add the onion, the ginger, the chili pepper and the garlic.  We let everything fry until it turns into a beautiful golden color.

We spice it with cardamom and cinnamon and we continue to mix everything together. At the end we add tomatoes and the chicken broth.  We keep the pan on the fire for about 20 minutes until  the ingredients boil in the chicken broth.  After this we add the yogurt  and we let it fry for another 10 minutes.

Now we can remove the pan and serve our Chicken Tikka Masala hot and garnish it with  rice.
