Garlic Naan

This recipe makes the best garlic naan you have  ever tasted outside of an Indian restaurant. Your family will love  it and they won’t get enough of it. You can serve it with shish kabobs, but you would even eat it plain.  It is delicious!


3 cups (450g) plain flour

1 tsp dried yeast or baking powder

1 tsp salt     1 tsp caster sugar

1/2 cup (125ml) warm water

1/2 cup (125g) natural yoghurt

1 egg, lightly whisked

80g ghee

2 tsp nigella seeds

2 garlic cloves, finely chop

How to make your very own Garlic Naan:

You start by mixing the  flour, yeast, salt and sugar in a large bowl. In a small jug, whisk the water, yoghurt and egg together.  Add  it to the flour mixture and stir until everything  comes together. Pour a lightly surface of flour on the kitchen table and put your mixture over it. Start kneading it for 5 minutes until it becomes smooth. You can now place it in a bowl and use a plastic wrap to cover it. Let it rise in a warm, draught-free place.

You need to use your fist to punch down the dough. Cut half of the ghee and add it to the dough. Knead it for about 5 minutes, until the ghee is completely absorbed by the dough.

Next you need to preheat the oven to 180°C. Let the oven tray inside so that it heats up really well.

Put a pan over low heat and put the other half of ghee into the pan so that it melts. Add the garlic and fry it for about a minute, until it turns golden color. Remove the pan from heat

Split the dough into 8 even portions. You need to model each portion into a tear shape of about 3 mm thick. Add the nigella seeds over the dough and gently push them into the dough. Place the naan onto the oven tray and bake it until it looks puffed and golden  brown. Take them out and brush the naan with the ghee mixture. Serve it immediately!   It tastes amazing when it’s hot!
